The WA State Government, with only a few days notice, announced an extension to the emergency period for the Residential Tenancies (COVID-19) Response Act 2020 to March 28, 2021. You can read the announcement here.

The extension means that landlords will be unable to increase rents for existing tenants or serve notice (with limited exceptions) now until the end of the extended emergency period with any rent increases already agreed (upon the expectation of the emergency period ending this month) no longer able to be introduced.

Landlords finding themselves with COVID-19 tenancy issues or wanting further information or clarification can visit www.dmirs.wa.gov.au/covidrenting or call DMIR’s Landlord Hotline on 1300 304 054 directly.
