Thanks to everyone who came down to make our absolutely gorgeous seats. They’ve come out better than we could have hoped for. Three are almost done and will be put into place in the next couple of weeks complete with lush trees. ??

As a local resident and real estate agent I often get asked by people moving into our area how they can get involved with the local community, find out what’s happening, participate in the many great events that occur or just give away their excess lemons to their neighbours!
We are fortunate in the suburbs surrounding and nearby Beaufort Street to have a number of local groups and passionate residents that love their neighbourhood and provide spaces, both physical and virtual, for people to connect and share information and ideas and get more involved in their ‘hoods. Here’s a list of some.
Or IoB as it’s known, is “…a community organisation dedicated to bringing new life to the Inglewood heart of Beaufort Street” as well as a bit beyond. IoB is the group behind the Inglewood Night Markets and a host of other local place activation and beautification initiatives, including the stunning planter boxes in the video at the start of this blog. Connect with IoB at either their website or Facebook page for membership information and local community and project updates.
“The Baysie Rollers is a proactive and positive network of community members and stakeholders focused on revitalizing and growing the Bayswater Town Centre into a vibrant social, retail and hospitality hub.” Their mission is to “create a unique, lively and remarkable town centre with a diversity of experiences and amenities that motivate people to connect, recreate and shop”. The group organises Artisan Markets and other events as well as advocating for the town centre. Find them on Facebook.
WE HEART BAYSIE is a local network and Facebook page that aims to provide an “insider’s guide to the Bayswater neighbourhood”.
Is a Facebook page “for people and businesses who want to see Bayswater grow into a progressive, sustainable and vibrant community”.
“North Perth Local is a community organisation for residents, business people and groups who are passionate about the North Perth precinct”. “We endeavour to encourage and promote everything our area has to offer and work with The City of Vincent, community organisations and private developers to develop new initiatives … such as art projects, streetscape enhancements, events and much more”. “The Beaufort Street Network is a positive and proactive organisation working to create a better Beaufort Street.”
“The Network brings together local residents and businesses to develop a better place to live, work, run a business and have fun. We are unique – a knowledgeable community organisation making things happen.”
The network, amongst other things, is responsible for the monthly Beaufort Street Artisan Market which is a free outdoor Art Market held on the Second Sunday of the month. Connect via their website or on Facebook.
Founded in 1977, The Mount Lawley Society is a community organisation that promotes heritage protection, local history education and a community spirit within the heritage suburbs of Mount Lawley, Inglewood and Menora. Check out their website and Facebook page for details of meetings and events.
Maylands Resident and Ratepayers Association (MRRA)
The MRRA holds monthly meets whereby local businesses or residents can bring an issue or concern relating to Maylands for discussion and possible support by the Association. City of Bayswater Ward councillor Cr. Catherine Ehrhardt regularly attends meetings as does Maylands MLA Lisa Baker. The group is active in reviewing initiatives by the local and state government that affect Maylands businesses and the community.
Run by MRRA President Elli Petersen-Pik, this Facebook page is about giving residents a forum to suggest improvement to help to bring about changes for the better for the Maylands Community.
A collaborative Facebook page by local business owners in Maylands which shares information about events, products & services in the local community.
Another Facebook page where people are invited to post a picture or share information of interest to the Maylands community. Posts require administrator approval.
LACE Inc. is a local not-for-profit group who help to organise free art & community events for the City of Bayswater Shire. Run by locals, they are the team behind the highly popular
Maylands Markets which run on Saturday evenings at the RISE in the Summer months.
LACE are often calling for volunteers to help with the markets and the many events they run. To enquire about a stall or helping out at an event message them via Facebook.
Buy Nothing Maylands/Mount Lawley/Inglewood
Too many lemons? Unused or second hand goods you’re happy to give away? Then consider joining one of the Buy Nothing groups for your suburb! The groups operate on Facebook (you must message group moderators to join) and cover almost all our local ‘hoods. A great way to give back to the community or ask for help if needed. Nabo is a website set up to encourage social networking and connections in suburbs across Australia. Residents must verify their address to join and can register special interests on their profile page as well as trade and sell items. Nabo can be accessed via a computer or app on a phone or tablet.
…And don’t forget that your local Council will also have details of local resident and ratepayers groups or other local clubs, groups or spaces like a Community Garden, Men’s Shed or other special interest group that you can join as well as details of free or low cost local events at libraries, parks and other neighbourhood venues. There’s plenty to do and opportunities to help out if you’re keen.
