One of the things we are blessed with, and not short of, in the suburbs surrounding Beaufort Street is sporting clubs. Summer is Tennis Season and we have a number of wonderful local tennis clubs, including the winner of the tennis industry award Tennis Club of the Year 2012, Alexander Park in Menora, to choose from.
Alexander Park, a grass court club, offers comprehensive competition and adult and junior coaching programs as well as social tennis opportunities. It’s particularly well known for its Friday junior coaching sessions where the parents get to catch up over a glass (or bottle) of wine from the extremely well priced bar whilst their kids are sweating it out on the courts (you need to book well in advance to grab a spot at these).
The heritage listed Loton Park Tennis Club in Highgate is the “second oldest continuously operating operating Tennis Club” in WA. Now a predominantly gay & lesbian club, it has 6 grass courts and 2 hard courts that are available for hire by non-memembers. You can also book the clubhouse, which has a licensed bar, for functions.
The Mount Lawley Tennis Centre on Central Ave, Inglewood has 24 courts in total – 14 grass and 10 new all weather acrylic courts. It offers coaching, social and competitive tennis throughout the week and on weekends and also offers cardio tennis and Mum and Bubs sessions.
With a popular junior coaching program, Bayswater Tennis Club, on Garrett Road in Bayswater with its mix of grass, hard and clay courts, offers a playing surface for everyone. Court hire is available to non members and activities include social, pennants and competition tennis.
2012/13 sees the 100th season of operation of the North Perth Tennis Club. Located on Framer Street, North Perth (between Fitzgerald and Charles Sts) the club offers junior and adult coaching and competition and social tennis opportunities as well as the newest craze for keeping fit – Cardio Tennis. The very reasonably priced court hire starts from $10 per hour with both grass and hard court options.
And last but not least we have the Maylands Tennis Club on Clarkson Rd, Maylands, which is a self described “boutique” tennis club overlooking the Swan River. With 14 grass courts and 3 hard courts, the club offers coaching for juniors and adults as well as social and competitive playing opportunities and year round court hire.
Do you have a favourite local tennis club? Have I left anything out about a club that you think is worth mentioning? Please leave a comment – would love to have your feedback.
